A little bit about me . . . |
| |
I was born in West Sussex and grew up in the rural Sussex countryside. I was surrounded by animals and nature, which had a lasting impact throughout my childhood. From chickens, stick insects, hamsters and rabbits to horses and dogs there was never a dull moment! I grew to really appreciate nature and also the very individual character and habits of each animal, the quirks that make each one different. As I also had a passion for design from an early age it seemed natural to put the two together.
I took a G.N.V.Q in Art and Design and a Photography A Level before going on to do a Foundation Diploma in 2002. I then went on to do my degree in Cornwall in Contemporary Crafts at Falmouth College of Arts in 2003 (now University College Falmouth). It was here I got engaged to my husband who I met at college and who came to Falmouth with me to study Illustration (I owe him full credit to designing this website!). We married back in Sussex in the summer of 2004 and had a very happy further two years in Falmouth. Of course it was very different having a flat with no garden or animals so in the second year at University I bought a house rabbit, Millie, who became a great source of both amusement and inspiration!
I spent the final year at college studying hares using drawings and clay work, finishing with a series of fighting and standing hares for my degree exhibition. The success of the degree show inspired me to set up a studio and carry on making which has been both a daunting and extremely exciting process.
We moved back to Sussex at the beginning of 2007 with Millie and an additional little rabbit, Jack! After some time researching I managed to buy a kiln with some savings. At the end of the summer I had a small studio up and running where I am now constantly developing new ideas and have the opportunity to observe an abundance of British wildlife in the Sussex countryside, which is a great source of inspiration.
